Gabriel Latchin, a leading figure on the British jazz scene, brings together his trio to showcase bebop at its finest. Praised by The Guardian’s Dave Gelly as “the best straight-ahead jazz pianist to appear in the past few years”, Latchin will be performing music from his four critically acclaimed albums, along with a few of his favourite festive numbers to mark the season.

British pianist, composer and bandleader, Gabriel Latchin has made a name for himself as one of the UK’s finest musicians, praised by critics and world-renowned musicians alike. Known for his effortlessly swinging feel, deep repertoire and compelling performances, Latchin was recently praised by The Guardian as “the best straight-ahead jazz pianist to appear in the past few years."

2020 saw the release of I’ll Be Home for Christmas, his third album as a leader, which features new arrangements of beloved classics. A talented composer and arranger, Latchin’s writing is fresh and original, whilst reflecting his serious study of the jazz piano tradition. On I’ll Be Home for Christmas Latchin presents well-known songs through the eyes of his musical idols. For example, how might Bill Evans approach a Christmas song? What would Ahmad Jamal do with “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”? This album built on the success of Latchin’s 2019 album The Moon and I, which was met with critical acclaim worldwide.

An in-demand sideman across a range of projects, Latchin was personally invited by Christian McBride to perform with himself and Renée Fleming at Wigmore Hall. He is also the musical director for Claire Martin and Ray Gelato’s touring show, Let There Be Love. A regular performer at London’s premier jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club and the 606, Latchin can often be heard with contemporaries Sara Dowling, Atila, Nat Steele and The Steve Fishwick Quartet. He has also performed with Salena Jones, Roy Hargrove, Jason Marsalis, Ronnie Cuber and Grant Stewart.

Viewpoint, the trio’s fourth record (2023), featuring highly acclaimed drummer Joe Farnsworth (NYC) and first-call bassist Jeremy Brown (UK), is an album of all original, straight-ahead compositions, the Gabriel Latchin Trio take inspiration from Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock.
